Prompt claims post 2009
You may now claim a prompt for lgbtfest. Please read the instructions below!

To claim a prompt, comment here using the template below (copy and paste it directly into your comment):

Prompt 1:
First choice of posting date:
Second choice of posting date:
Third choice of posting date:

Prompt 2: (if claiming two prompts)
First choice of posting date:
Second choice of posting date:
Third choice of posting date:

You may claim up to two prompts. Each prompt may be claimed twice, but we strongly encourage you to choose a prompt that's not yet claimed. Please check visible comments as well as the prompt list to make sure a prompt has not already been claimed twice.

When you claim each prompt, list your top three choices of posting dates from April 15 to May 15. At this time, we are letting ten people sign up for each date. Please check visible comments as well as the calendar to make sure a date is not already full.

FAQ

How do I find out my assigned posting date?

Please check the calendar for your assigned posting date. We'll contact you if none of the dates you requested are available (or if the prompt you requested isn't available).

Why can't I see some of the comments to this post?

Your comment will be screened as soon as your claims are added to the claims list and calendar, to make it easier to see claims we haven't yet had a chance to add.

What happens if you run out of posting dates?

We'll add more dates if we need to, or let more people sign up for the existing dates. We'll make sure everyone who signs up by March 10 gets a posting date. However, if you wait until March 10 to sign up, your choices of dates may be very limited.

Can I wait to claim a second prompt until after I've posted my first story?

You can claim a second prompt if there are still posting dates available. However, if it's after March 10 and the posting dates have filled up completely, you won't be able to claim a prompt unless someone drops out and opens up a slot.

I submitted prompts that aren't on the list!

We're sorry! Your prompts may have been incorrectly formatted or missing information, or maybe we just made a mistake. In either case, we aren't adding additional prompts at this point.

My fandom is listed under multiple names!

We're sorry! We tried to consolidate prompts for fandoms submitted under multiple names (The West Wing/West Wing, Vorkosiverse/Vorkosigan Saga, etc.), but we may have missed some. We can't fix it at this point, so do check under variants of your fandom's name to make sure you're not missing another set of prompts.

How long do stories need to be?

The minimum length for stories is 1000 words. There's no maximum length, as long as you post the complete story on your assigned posting day.

Prompts (Any fandom + Fandoms 'A Bright Room Called Day' - 'Brothers & Sisters')
Prompts (Fandoms 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' - 'Fired Up')
Prompts (Fandoms 'Firefly' - 'Life on Mars')
Prompts (Fandoms 'Little Miss Sunshine' - 'Star Trek')
Prompts (Fandoms 'Star Wars' - 'Transformers')
Prompts (Fandoms 'Trixie Belden' - 'Zanna Don't!' + RPF)

Question - I'm only signing up for one prompt at the moment, but if I finish it and have time for a second, I can sign up for another one later, right? (Assuming it hasn't already been claimed twice, that is.)
lgbt_modlgbt_mod on March 4th, 2009 02:13 pm (UTC)
Yes, you may, if it hasn't been claimed twice and there are posting dates left. However, if every date is completely filled at the end of March 10, to claim a prompt after that you'll have to wait and see if someone drops out and opens up a slot. That's likely, especially toward the end of the fest, but not guaranteed.
ubixtiz on March 4th, 2009 02:24 pm (UTC)
Psst, prompt 107 seems to have two listings under it.
penknife: anvilpenknife on March 4th, 2009 02:26 pm (UTC)
Yes, someone noticed after we posted that there were two prompts run together under 107. If you want to claim either of them, please claim them as 107A or 107B. We can't actually renumber them at this point without screwing up the numbering all through the rest of the list.
rage&serenitycelli_puzzle on March 4th, 2009 02:47 pm (UTC)
Just another question: can we still use prompts in our own fic and not officially submit for them, as long as we credit?
lgbt_modlgbt_mod on March 4th, 2009 02:50 pm (UTC)
Yes, after the fest is over you can write to any of the prompts with no time limit, whether they've been claimed and written already or not, and we'll put up a post where you can link those stories.

Are there any requirements about fic length?
lgbt_modlgbt_mod on March 4th, 2009 03:02 pm (UTC)
There's a minimum length of 1000 words, and no maximum. It's in the FAQ above. :-)

Just a note to point out something that you probably already knew...

It looks like many of the RPF fandoms got divided into two sections depending on whether they were formatted as "RPF - X" or "RPF-X." So for example you have Beatles prompts in two different places.

Is there any chance this can be fixed?
lgbt_modlgbt_mod on March 4th, 2009 03:26 pm (UTC)
I can't fix it right now, although I'll see if that's possible to do later. For now, I've added a note to the post with the RPF prompts mentioning the problem, so that people will know to check for multiple sets of prompts for their RPF fandom.

Would it be possible to mention somewhere (in the FAQ or elsewhere) that crossover fic prompts are all listed under 'C' rather than under the fandoms they combine (or was this mentioned and I just missed it)? Thanks!
lgbt_modlgbt_mod on March 4th, 2009 03:19 pm (UTC)
Sure, I will do that.

Also, I've noticed that some of the 'The ____' fandoms are also listed without 'The'--The West Wing/West Wing was what really caught my eye, but the rest could be worth a look.

You can claim another prompt after you've written your first story if there are still posting dates available. However, if it's after March 10 and the posting dates have filled up completely, you'll need to wait and see if someone drops out and opens up a slot. That's likely, especially toward the end of the fest, but not guaranteed.

Please do post on your assigned posting date. If you want to change the dates you requested at this point, you can, though.

I'm assuming that for your second prompt, "3," "2," and "1" refer to May 3, May 2, and May 1. If not, please let us know ASAP. :)
