Hi folks,

I'm having a problem with spam comments, so I've temporarily disabled comments in lgbtfest in hopes of encouraging the spammers to move on. Hopefully this is just a temporary measure -- I know people still browse the community occasionally and may want to leave feedback, or look at old feedback on their own stories, but the comment spam is getting on my last nerve.

While there have been some great discussions in the previous posts about having a community open year round to prompts, some of us really wanted a fest to celebrate the lgbt experiene. To that end, queer_fest is open for business!

Much of the rules have been shamelessly stolen from lgbtfest, and the format is entirely the same.

Rules/questions post is here.

Prompting post is here.

Schedule:

Prompt submission: March 20 to March 30
Prompt claiming: April 1 to April 8
Posting begins: May 1
Posting ends: June 30

In the previous modly post, knittinggoddess left the following comment:
I understand!
In that case, if anyone has interest in co-moderating a new comm, leave a comment to this one.
In the interest of having a "clean" entry with comments only about this subject, I thought I'd made a separate post for it.

I'm definitely interested and even thought of a new name. What about "lgbtfestforward"?

So ... who would like to get together to talk about how a new community could operate without putting a huge burden on its mods.

I'm definitely in.
Let's talk about it.

Hi folks,

I've gotten a couple of questions about this lately, and I wanted to let you know that we're not going to be doing another round of lgbtfest this year. It's been a great experience, and although neither of us has the time or energy to tackle doing it again, I'm really glad so many people have enjoyed writing and reading for the fest in the past!

I'll still be maintaining the lgbtfest collection on AO3, and if you have stories written for previous rounds, you can still add them to the collection. Also, please feel free to browse past prompts for inspiration, and check out the fandom tags and the AO3 collection for any stories you may have missed in the past.

If anyone's thinking of starting a similar fest, I'll be happy for you to announce it here, but we're putting this particular fest to bed. Thanks so much to everyone who participated!

Sorry about the spam, folks, and thanks to those of you who let me know about it. There seems to be a rash of spam in communities right now, so I've put us on moderated posting for the time being; there's no reason for anyone to be making top-level posts right now anyway, so it shouldn't affect anyone but the spammers.

We're now opening up the lgbtfest prompts for anyone who wants to use them as inspiration. There's no claiming at this point, so feel free to write for any prompt you like.

Please post any new stories written for the prompts in your own journal (or to AO3, or wherever else you want), and link to them here in comments.

If you missed your posting date but have now finished your story for the fest, you're welcome to link it here as well. There's no minimum word limit for stories written between rounds of the fest, so if your story didn't hit 1000 words, you can link it here.

Title: If You Can Keep Your Head When All About You...
Author: janus
Fandom: Harry Potter
Pairing/characters: Albus Dumbledore, Severus Snape, Tobias Snape, Eileen Snape, Abraxas Malfoy and Rabastan Lestrange
Words: 4,684
Rating: M for Mature. See warnings.
Disclaimer: I do not any thing nor person from the 'Harry Potter' universe. This is written by and for adults. No money is made from this writing.
Prompt: Harry Potter, any character, A canon character uses spells/potions to transition from one sex to another.
Summary: Severus uses will and magic to bring body and soul together when he is very young, but then he needs to negotiate his fearful secret.
Warnings: Misogyny, Transphobia, Violence, Bullying, Dark Themes and Manipulation
Author's Notes: With kind thanks to slytherinlaurel for suggestions, encouragement and her wonderful beta-work. This was much harder to write than anticipated, and the last two sections have not been beta'd. I apologise for any errors I may have missed. It is a hard tale, not light-hearted, and perhaps not what you are expecting, but it has a happy ending. The misogyny in Severus attitudes is not my own, but those of a young boy who does not want to be a girl and has had certain expectations laid upon him. The title is the opening of Kipling's If, which ends: "Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it, And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!" Thank you for reading.

Author's Notes: I actually wrote this weeks ago then forgot about posting it. Thanks to the mods for Amnesty Wednesday and for letting me participate.
